Best tourist attractions in and around Porto Portugal

The region of Northern Portugal is known as the “posh” side of the country. An industrial area, but also an economic hub and cultural center, it attracts thousands of visitors from around the world. Today we would like to present at least a few of the best tourist attractions in and around Porto Portugal.

Porto is renowned for its parks, museums and monuments. It is the Cita Invicta, dipped in history and culture. The main attractions in town include the 19th century Palacio da Bolsa, the Igreja de Sao Francisco with its baroque 17th century interior, the Ribeira district facing the River Douro and the Music House.

But there is more to Porto than what can be found in the confines of the city.

The town Vila Nova de Gaia offers a wonderfully diverse landscape, with old houses and elegant restaurants and cafe bars, being also the best place to get a cruise on the Douro River. The Gaia cable car will offer you a truly dramatic image over the town and Porto.

Amarante is another stop you should really think of making if you are visiting Porto and its surroundings. A traditional small Northern town, it was established by the Tamega River. Sao Goncalo Convent is the main attraction, a Renaissance monument which was begun in the year 1540. In 1620, along with baroque and renaissance innovations, it was finished and is a delight to the eye. The Museum Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, dedicated to contemporary art, is another landmark.

The last stop for today is the baroque Sanctuary of Lamego, Nossa Senhora dos Remedios. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains the 12th century ruins of a castle as well as the monumental mentioned sanctuary. This town by the Douro is also the oldest wine region in Portugal.

You can visit all these places and many others if you book a Porto transfer online!
